Keeping yourself safe

Ensuring your safety, both at school and at home, is our utmost concern. As a school we take prioritise equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe.

Our comprehensive PSHE curriculum includes various topics such as E-Safety, first aid, road safety, water safety, bike safety, and substance awareness.

We place a significant focus on relationships, emotions, and coping with life's changes, recognizing that growing up can be challenging.

Our goal is to prepare you for the next chapter of your life as you transition from Nelson. Remember, once you're part of Team Nelson, you're always part of the team, and our support remains.

We're Here to Listen:

  • There's always someone at school you can talk to
  • We have an anonymous reporting system in school and worry boxes / friends in every classroom for you to share your concerns with us
  • Trusted adults are available to listen, offer advice, and provide support. While they won't promise to keep secrets, they will always act in your best interest and advocate for you.

Don't Keep It Inside: Speak Out!

Building a Support Network:

  • We encourage you to have a "trusted adult" at home, whether it's a parent, grandparent, family member, friend, or teacher, who can provide help, guidance, and support.
  • Remember the helping hand exercise to identify and remember who your key trusted adults are.
  • If you prefer not to speak to someone you can use the school worry boxes or class Feelings Friend to let staff know how you are feeling.
  • The whole school Three Houses exercise is another way to share with staff what you may be finding challenging.
